Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – It was all Bulldogs as the Adrian College men's lacrosse team easily handled the College of Wooster 15-3. With the win the Bulldogs improve to 6-2 on the season.
Adrian netted 10 goals in the first half, including six in the second period alone, as they held the Scots scoreless in the second half.
Wooster netted the first goal of the game, but the Bulldogs would rally back to net four unanswered goals to lead after the first period. Junior T.J. Cook (Caledon, Ont./Upper Canada College) netted two goals in the period including one on a man-up advantage. Cook and senior Josh Maluta (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) each scored just five seconds apart starting 2:54 of the first.
Wooster again netted the first goal of the period in the second, this time while they were a man down. Adrian would again score two quick goals as junior Tyler Tanguay (Port Colborne, Ont./Lakeshore Catholic) and sophomore Brandon MacDonald (Midhurst, Ont./Eastview Secondary School) scored just seven seconds apart. Senior Ryan Knautz (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) ended the first half scoring with just 17 seconds remaining on the clock.
The second half was much quieter compared to the first as Adrian scored only five goals, three in the third and twice in the fourth. The Bulldogs did net two goals on man-up opportunities.
Junior David Monroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) led the Bulldogs with five points, all coming on assists. Cook and Tanguay each netted a hat trick. Maluta added in two goals and dished out two assists. Knautz also scored twice. Senior Adam Hague (Hudsonville, Mich./Pope) led the Bulldogs with a game-high four groundballs.
Freshman Matt Neal made the start in goal making nine saves while picking up two groundballs. Fellow freshman Kevin Lerg came in to close out the last nine minutes of the game while making three saves.
Adrian outshot the Scots 34-to-27 on the afternoon. The Bulldogs controlled 12-of-22 faceoffs. Wooster held a 17-to-16 advantage in groundballs recovered. The Bulldogs were a near perfect 4-for-6 on man-up opportunities while the Scots were 0-for-2. Both sides did well in their clear opportunities with Adrian going 16-for-18 while Wooster was 13-for-14.
The Bulldogs will take the week off as they host non-conference opponent Kenyon College on April 9 at 2:00 pm.
