Win Streak Snapped at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Adrian College baseball team split a pair of games on Friday afternoon (May 6) at Kalamazoo College and are now 29-7 overall and 22-2 in the MIAA with just four games left in the regular season. The game one loss of 8-7 in eight innings snapped a 16-game win streak by the Bulldogs.

Adrian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Brian Bilius had an RBI double to score Cody Meyer and Jake Cappelletty reached on a two-out error to allow the second run to score. Kalamazoo took a 5-2 lead with a five-spot in the second inning. The Hornets loaded the bases and Marc Zughaib had a two-run double to make the score 3-2. David Kamerman followed with an RBI single to give Kalamazoo a 4-2 lead. Adrian starter Zach Robbins was taken out of the game and replaced by Craig Steadman. Mike McCann singled up the middle to score Kamerman for a three-run lead.

Adrian cut the lead to 5-3 in the fifth inning as Nate Sarkissian had an infield RBI single. Kalamazoo got the run right back in the bottom of the fifth. Tim Lynch had an RBI single for the Hornets. Adrian trailed 7-3 going into the top of the seventh and tied the game with four runs. Cappelletty had the big blow which was a bases-clearing double with three RBI. Nate Clark then came up with two outs and a man on third and came up clutch with an RBI single up the middle.

The Hornets scored once in the bottom of the eighth to win it. McCann walked to start the inning and Jake Hansen singled to right and took second on a fielding error to put runners on second and third with no outs. Lucas Willitzer issued an intentional walk to load the bases and then struck out Drew Ordakowski. John Jakubik ended it with a single up the middle.

Adrian took off with five runs in the top of the first and cruised to an 8-3 win. Cappelletty had an RBI groundout and Joe Dubina had a two-RBI single in the inning. Adrian pushed their lead to 7-1 in the top of the fourth. Cappelletty had a two-run double in the inning.

Rylie Robinson got the start in game two for the Bulldogs and picked up the win improving to 4-1 this season. Josh Burd threw the final two innings and allowed four hits and one earned run. Cappelletty went 2-for-4 with three RBI in game two and matched his three RBI in game one.
