Men's Lacrosse

Bulldogs run over Scots, 18-5

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's lacrosse team remained undefeated at home this season with a convincing 18-5 win over visiting Alma College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game at Performance Stadium under wintery conditions.

The Bulldogs' eighth win of the season tied them with Trine University for the MIAA lead with a 3-0 record. The 18 Adrian goals tied a single-game season-high set earlier this month at Calvin College.

The Adrian starters accounted for the first six goals and the Bulldogs led 7-1 after the first quarter.

Adrian led 10-2 at the half and scored the game's only three goals of the third quarter before adding five more in the final quarter.

The Bulldogs held edges in shots (34-11), groundballs (25-18) and man-up goals (2-0).

Adrian chose to let the backups make a statement for more playing time rather than running up the score with the starters.

Six different reserve freshmen accounted for a dozen goals in relief.

Leading the way for the first-year players with four goals was Jesse Gilbert. Nick Levanti scored three times while Colton Brunk, Jake Waldrup and Matt Desveaux scoring single tallies. Connor Ryan notched his first two goals of the season.

Three different freshmen led the team in groundballs with three apiece- Nathan Carroll, Zach Kozlowski and Peter Treppa.

It took Adrian about three minutes to get on the board with John Hudzinski notching his 16th goal of the season from Cody Kilcoyne.

The starting trio of Hudzinski, Kilcoyne and Mitch Burgin racked up 11 combined points in about the game's first ten minutes before giving way to the reserves. Hudzinski scored three goals, while singles were added by Burgin, A.J. Smith and Kilcoyne.

Adrian goalkeeper Lerg improved his record to 7-3 from the cage playing the first half and recording four saves. Ricky Razo made one save in relief.

Next Saturday's home game against Trine will probably decide this year's MIAA regular-season champion.
