AURORA, Ill.--The Adrian College men's lacrosse team suffered a 19-2 non-conference loss on the road to Aurora University in its 2016 season opener on Saturday. 

THE BASICS

= Final Score: Aurora 19, Adrian 2

= Location: Vago Field, Aurora, Ill.; Weather: Sunny, 50 degrees

= Records: Aurora Spartans 3-0; Adrian Bulldogs 0-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Eleven Spartans scored a goal and nine had an assist, led by Jason Koziol who had three goals and three assists. AU scored 55 seconds into the game and never looked back as Matt Sammarco had the first goal.  

= Senior midfielder Jake Waldrup scored twice for the visiting Bulldogs. He scored unassisted at the 3:44 mark of the third quarter, and then at 1:08 in the fourth.

= Sophomore Michael Turner notched his first career assist in an Adrian uniform on Waldrup's second tally in the final stanza.

= At halftime, AU led 11-0 with Adrian having only five shots in the first half.

= Senior Brett Farrelly made a career-high 18 saves in the Bulldogs cage.

= Junior Cody Schmitt led Adrian with three ground balls.

THE OPPOSITION
= Aurora also led in shots (60-18), ground balls (44-20) and face-offs (19-5).

= Starting goalie Tyler Lombardi did not allow a goal and made one save to get the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian lost to Aurora for the first time in six meetings. The Bulldogs defeated the Spartans, 15-13, back on March 2 at the All American Lacrosse Classic in Pontiac, Mich.

= The Bulldogs had won six of their last seven season openers before this afternoon in Illinois.

= The 17-goal defeat is an AC school record, breaking the old mark in a 26-10 loss at national power Ohio Wesleyan during the program's 2008 inaugural campaign.

- Farrelly's 18 saves are three shy of an Adrian single-game record.
