Doug Boyd Sets Career Highs in Goals, Points Despite Bulldogs' 29-13 Loss at Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill--Adrian College senior midfielder Doug Boyd had personal records of five goals and a game-tying eight points, but his career day was spoiled by a 29-13 Illinois Wesleyan non-conference win over the Bulldogs in men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

FOR ADRIAN
= Senior midfielder Jake Waldrup added four goals and an assist.

= Sophomore midfielder Michael Turner and junior middie Matt Scherer also had multi-goal games.

= Senior midfielder Dan Hudson also earned a point with an assist.

= Senior goalie Brett Farrelly made 29 saves, setting a school record for a single game.

= Scoring leader Boyd and sophomore long-stick middie Callum Clark led the team with four ground balls apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= The host Titans scored 10 of the 11 goals in the second quarter to break open a close game, holding a commanding 17-3 lead at the intermission.

= Waldrup tied the game 1-1 with 12 minutes and 42 seconds left in the first quarter, but Tim Smith sparked a five-goal run en route to a 7-2 advantage at the end of 15 minutes.

= IWU edged Adrian in second-half goal scoring, 12-10.

THE OPPOSITION
= Smith paced the IWU attack with a game-high seven goals.

= Steven Laduzinsky stopped 11 shots to get his third win in four decisions.

= Max Porter and J.C. Grabarek had 12 and nine ground balls, respectively. The latter contributed a goal and four assists.

= Michael Julius (5g, 2a), James Maibuecher (2g, 6a), Evan Mok-Lamme (2g) also figured.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian has upped its goal total in each of its first three games this spring.

= Farrelly easily eclipsed Eric Lindstrom's 21 saves at Oberlin College on April 16, 2008.

= Adrian's previous record for saves as a team was 23 at Ohio Wesleyan on Apr 11, 2010.

= Boyd's eight points today are 14th-most in school history.

UP NEXT
= Adrian continues non-conference action on Wednesday when it hosts Kenyon College in the Bulldogs' home opener. Opening face-off is set for 4 p.m. at Docking Stadium.
