Senior Doug Boyd Nets Five Goals in 18-6 Non-Conference Road Defeat at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio--Host Wittenberg University scored at least four goals in each quarter on the way to an 18-6 non-conference victory over Adrian College in men's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon.

 Senior Doug Boyd paced the offense with five goals, tying a season high.

Senior Jake Waldrup tallied the Bulldogs' other goal.

Freshman Conor Redden contributed an assist.

= Junior Cody Schmitt scooped up four ground balls.

Senior goalkeeper Brett Farrelly made 11 saves to increase his season total to an even 100, overtaking the top spot in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= The game was tied 1-1 when Wittenberg reeled off nine consecutive goals to take a commanding 9-1 advantage early in the third quarter.

= The teams traded unassisted goals in the opening 1 minute and 40 seconds. Austin Brady gave WU a 1-0 at the 14:00 mark and then Boyd knotted it 1-all 40 seconds later.

= The Tigers led 8-1 at halftime and 14-2 through three quarters.

THE OPPOSITION
Thomas Fuss led all student-athletes with six goals and nine points.

Andrew Fuss added six assists and eight points; he also had five ground balls.

Brent Whitehead went 17-for-22 at the "X" and collected a game-best 11 ground balls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= The Tigers now lead the all-time series 5-3, avenging last season's 14-11 loss at Adrian.

= Adrian has lost seven games in a row dating back to last season, setting a school record. The Bulldogs dropped six-straight during their inaugural campaign in 2008.

= Boyd increased his Adrian-leading-totals to 15 goals and 24 points this season--both figures that rank sixth in the MIAA.

UP NEXT
= Adrian returns home to Docking Stadium on Saturday to kick off a three-game homestand that starts with Otterbein College. The non-conference tilt faces off at 3 p.m.
