Host Ohio Northern Polar Bears Bite Men's Lacrosse in Non-Conference Action, 18-4

ADA, Ohio--Ohio Northern University used a balanced offense and its depth to spell an 18-4 defeat at the expense of the Adrian College men's lacrosse team on Tuesday evening.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Senior Matt Scherer posted a pair of goals, five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

= Griffin Davison (1 assist) and junior Michael Turner also scored for Adrian.

= Senior Cody Schmitt led all players with nine ground balls and added four caused turnovers.

= Senior goalkeeper Brett Farrelly made 10 saves.

= Junior Caleb Vanderlugt won nine face-offs, scooped up six ground balls and caused four turnovers.

= Classmate Callum Clark produced five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

THE OPPOSITION
Cameron Marous led all student-athletes with four goals, three assists and seven total points, plus he had five ground balls.

Peter Hardt and Lucas Blaszyk both had three goals and an assist.

= Starting keeper Alex Pizarro (W, 3-1) made seven saves in the first half to get the win.

Logan Krogman had a game-best five caused turnovers and contributed seven ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= With Adrian still within reach trailing only 7-1 at halftime, ONU took control in the third quarter by scoring seven of nine goals for a 14-3 cushion.

= The teams were scoreless until the 9-minute, 45-second mark left in the first quarter when Marous put ONU up 1-0. The Polar Bears added two more goals to end the period.

= Davison cut the deficit to 3-1 while a man-up on a feed by Clark with 11:26 remaining in the second.

= ONU, however, scored seven unanswered goals to go up 10-1 early in the third.

= The Polar Bears also held statistical advantages in shots (47-19), face-offs (16-10), ground balls (56-42) and shots on goal (28-13).

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= This marked the first-ever meeting between the teams.

= Scherer has three multiple-goal games in a row--increasing his career high to 10 goals on the season already.

= Davison and Turner upped their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association-leading totals to 20 goals and 16 assists. Davison leads AC with 25 points, which is tied for third in the MIAA, and Turner has 24 for fifth in the league.

= Schmitt ranks both second in the MIAA with 49 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers.
