Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Calvin Knights for 12-10 MIAA Victory on the Road

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--The Adrian College men's lacrosse team got career games from sophomore Conor Redden and freshman Todd Gipson-Goodnough on Saturday evening to hold back a Calvin College comeback bid in a 12-10 win over the host Knights in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action.

THE BASICS
= Final Score: Adrian 12, Calvin 10

= Location: Eagle Stadium at Grand Rapids Christian High School, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Weather conditions: Clear, low 60s, Wind 5 mph

= Records: Adrian Bulldogs 3-9 overall (1-4 MIAA), Calvin Knights 4-10 overall (0-5 MIAA)

TOP 'DAWGS
= Redden notched a career- and game-best five points with two goals and three assists.

= Gipson-Goodnough also established a personal-record with four points on two goals and two assists.

= Freshman Isiah Dehn scooped up personal bests of six ground balls and three caused turnovers to lead all student-athletes in both categories.

= Seniors Cody Schmitt (2g), Justin Polischuk (1g, 1a), Matt Scherer (1g, 1a), junior Michael Turner (2g, 1a) and freshman Griffin Davison (2g) also enjoyed a multi-point game.

= Senior goalie Brett Farrelly made eight saves and four ground balls to get the win.

= Junior Caleb Vanderlugt contributed four ground balls and won a career-best 11 face-offs.

THE OPPOSITION
= Max Foster tallied four points on two goals and two assists.

= Chris Griffin registered a hat-trick.

Michael Winkler and Griffin Sparling both had two goals and an assist.

Nick Pitre was 11-for-19 in the face-off "X."

Noah Nedd and Ethan Brown had six ground balls apiece, with Brown causing three turnovers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= After a 6-6 halftime tie, Adrian took control in the third quarter when it scored four of the five goals. Turner scored two of those goals, including on the man-up to give the Bulldogs the lead for good, 8-7, with 6 minutes and 57 seconds left.

= Schmitt scored (with Turner on the assist) at 13:08 of the fourth quarter to hand Adrian its biggest lead of the night at 11-7.

= Adrian outshot Calvin by a 39 to 26 count, and 24-18 shots on goal.

= Neither side had more than a two-goal lead in the first half. Adrian led 6-4 with 2:55 to go before Foster and Winkler scored 42 seconds apart to send the teams tied going into the intermission.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= Davison and Turner lead the Bulldogs in scoring with 38 and 36 points, respectively.

UP NEXT
= Adrian returns to Docking Stadium on Tuesday (7 p.m.) for its final home game against Kalamazoo College.
