ADRIAN, Mich. - This week, the Adrian women's basketball team is looking to wrap-up its first semester of the season on a "jolly" note.
In the midst of a six-game losing-skid, the Bulldogs (2-7, 0-3 MIAA) will travel south to Earlham College on Tuesday before returning to Adrian on Wednesday to host Bluffton University.
Earlham (0-9, 0-3 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) enters this week still in search of its first victory of the season, while Bluffton (3-4, 1-2 HCAC) snapped a three-game drought with a win over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.
The Quakers and currently ranked last in the HCAC in both points per game and points allowed per game, and although the Beavers are actively sitting second-to-last in the conference with a 58.0 scoring average, they do boast the HCAC's second-best scoring defense, limiting opponents to only 53.3 points per contest on a conference-low 31.8 percent field goal percentage.
Janaiya Bright and Amari Bradford pace Earlham's offense with 13.4 and 13.2 points per outing, respectively. The latter of the two also leads her team on the glass, having corralled a team-high 46, and on defense with a conference second-best 25 steals.
Bluffton's line-up features a trio of upperclassmen, including senior Brianna Gillig, who is currently averaging a double-double on the season with 11.6 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per contest. Then, there is junior Sammy Shardo with a scoring average of just under 10 points a night while also leading the Beavers with 16 total assists and seven total steals. Lastly, fellow junior Morgan Smith is second on the roster with a 10.1 scoring mark.
Wednesday's match-up between Adrian and Bluffton will be the team's third meeting since last December when the 'Dogs traveled to Ohio for a two-game, three-day series. The Beavers would win both of those contests by a combined 13 points.
On the other hand, the black and gold have not seen Earlham since New Year's Eve in 2009.
Adrian, as mentioned previously, has lost six-straight since winning back-to-back games in Pennsylvania back in November.
The Bulldogs are averaging 54.3 points a game during this active slide, and have been outscored by their opposition by an average of 20.5 points.
Chelsea Palmer continues to lead the locals in scoring this season, posting 13.1 points per outing while also contributing a team-high 7.6 rebounds a game.
Rylee Campbell is chipping in 7.9 points a game in nine starts, leading the team with 16 made 3-point field goals, and
Makayla Clement is adding, on average, 7.6 points to go along with a team-high 15 steals and five blocks.
Both of this week's games will include live stats as well as live video streams, and are each scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m.
