ADRIAN, Mich. - In one week, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) will begin its postseason for women's basketball. The Adrian Bulldogs (8-14, 5-9 MIAA) have already clinched their sixth tournament appearance in program history, and will face a grueling final week of the regular-season, beginning Wednesday evening against Hope College.
The Flying Dutchmen (21-1, 13-1 MIAA) continue to dominate their opponents, actively ranking second in Division III in average points for (88.8), and fourth in average points against (47.1).
Hope enters the week having won five-straight since losing their record-setting, 61-game winning streak against Trine University back on January 26.
As a team, the Dutchmen currently lead the conference in five different statistical categories, including field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, rebounding average, assists and steals.
Individually, Olivia Voskuil is scoring a team-high 10.8 points per game, followed by Kenedy Schoonveld (9.7) and Savannah Feenstra (9.3). Furthermore, Voskuil boasts the MIAA's fifth-highest player field goal percentage at 0.495.
Fellow seniors Kate Majerus and Kasey DeSmit sit first and fourth, respectively in the conference with three-point field goal percentages of 0.556 and 0.400.
In the earlier-season meeting between the 'Dogs and the Dutch, the victors breached the 100-point threshold for the first time in the all-time series since 2011, while Adrian's 54 points were the most in a single-game against Hope since 2017.
As mentioned previously, the Flying Dutchmen suffered their first loss in nearly three seasons a couple of weeks ago in Holland against the Thunder.
Trine (20-2, 13-1 MIAA) has won 12 consecutive games since being dealt a loss by Hope back on December 18.
Similar to the Dutch, while Trine's line-up does not feature any significant outliers in scoring, the team does sport some of the league's hottest shooting marks.
Rachel Stewart actively ranks at the top of the conference in field goal percentage (0.573), while Kelsy Taylor sits two spots behind with a 0.527 percentage. On three-point field goals, Tara Bieniewicz and Alyssa Argyle rank third and fifth, respectively at 0.402 and 0.381.
The Thunder are second to Hope in most statistical categories, but do hold a near two-percentage point cushion in free throws.
The Bulldogs, on the other hand, are scattered around when it comes to team statistics in the MIAA, currently sitting fourth in free throw percentage (65.8), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (27.9), and sixth in overall field goal percentage (36.1).
Chelsea Palmer, who is coming off of a 24-point performance against Kalamazoo on Saturday, ranks third in the MIAA in both scoring (14.7) and rebounding (8.3). The senior has a career-high 10 double-doubles this, including four in her last five appearances.
Jordan Phillips, whose three-point field goal percentage of 0.433 is second-highest in conference, is averaging 10.4 points per outing over the 'Dogs' last five games.
This weekend's match-up between Adrian and Trine will be their first meeting since the first day of December in Angola. The home side won that bout 80-52.
