Men's Lacrosse to Hold Game to Fight Cancer During Two-Game Week

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team has another pair of games this week on the schedule as they get set to travel to Heidelberg University on Wednesday followed by a home game against Hanover College on Saturday. The Bulldogs unfortunately were no longer receiving votes in the most recent USILA poll like they have been the last two weeks. However, Adrian comes into the week with a 5-2 record on the year and are coming off a blowout over Wabash College where the Bulldogs took home a 23-4 victory.

So far this season, Adrian has been in double figures when it comes to goal scoring in five out of the team's seven games this season. Adrian began the year scoring 12 against Siena Heights followed by 15 goals against Lake Forest, 24 against Earlham, 16 against Chatham, and 23 against Wabash. Adrian currently sits second in the MIAA in goals for the season with 104 total behind Albion College who totals 114. The Bulldogs lead the conference in ground balls with 296, face offs won with 133, and sit third in caused turnovers with 79.

The Adrian offense is led by freshman Michael Jonas who has a team-high 17 goals, 16 assists, and 33 points. Peyton Gashce sits second on the team in goals with 16 to go with ten assists for 26 points while Chris French has racked up 14 goals with 16 assists for 30 points. Travis Fox sits as the other member of the offense in double digits for goals. French and Gasche are coming off a milestone week as both attack man netted their 100th career goals.

On defense for the Bulldogs, Cameron Reed leads the team in caused turnovers with 16 followed by ten from AJ Hayes. Max Leventis leads the team with 66 ground balls on the season with the help of 116 wins from the face off dot. Jake Coakley has picked up 23 ground balls this season followed by 20 from Riley Edwards. Leventis is also coming off a week where he recorded a career milestone as he picked up his 400th career ground ball.

Sam Spangler has started in all seven games this season for the Bulldogs in goal recording a record of 5-2 while allowing 8.28 goals per game. Spangler's goals against average ranks fifth in conference while his save percentage of 53.3% ranks third in the third most amount of minutes.

Heidelberg has struggled to start the season as they sit 0-6 coming into the week. The Student Princes have recorded only one goal in two of their games this year which came against MIAA opponents Trine University and Alma College. Hanover comes into the week with a 4-3 record on the year. Hanover has also faced Lake Forest and Wabash were they came away with a 7-4 victory over Wabash and a 11-10 loss to Lake Forest.

Saturday's game against Hanover will be a Fight Against Cancer Game as Adrian has partnered with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Adrian College and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation are looking for donations leading up to the game with a goal of $3,500. Any and all donations can be made by clicking HERE.

The Bulldogs open the week on the road on Wednesday, March 26 at 7:30 PM as they travel to Heidelberg University before heading home to face Hanover College on Saturday, March 26 at 1:00 PM.
