ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team picked up its first MIAA conference win over the weekend against Kalamazoo College in a 10-6 home victory. It is a quick turnaround for the Bulldogs as they will travel up to Alma on Tuesday to begin the week. Adrian moved to 9-2 over the weekend and have now won five games in a row and look to expand with Alma and Calvin on the schedule for this week.
So far this season, the Bulldogs sit only behind Trine University in overall winning percentage in the MIAA and rank 16th in the country in that category. Alma comes in with a 4-6 record on the year and are coming off a conference loss to Trine University to start 0-1. Calvin is 0-1 to begin the conference season with a loss to Albion and sit 6-6 on the year with a four game losing streak to enter the week.
For the Bulldogs, the defense has been very solid to begin the year ranking fifth in the country in scoring defense allowing an average of just 6.27 goals per game.
Cameron Reed continues to lead the team with 24 caused turnovers on the year with a team fourth best 30 ground balls.
AJ Hayes and
Michael Jonas each sit second on the team with 12 caused turnovers.
Riley Edwards has picked up 31 ground balls while
Jake Coakley has grabbed 32 to sit behind the leader
Max Leventis with 114. Leventis still ranks second in the country in face off winning percentage winning 77.5% of the face offs he takes. As a team, Adrian ranks third in that category.Â
On the offensive end for the Bulldogs, they are led by
Chris French who leads the team with 51 points on 28 goals with 23 assists. The 28 goals from French ranks fifth in the MIAA and the 23 assists ranks at the top of the conference. Jonas has added 47 points on the year with the help of 26 goals and 21 assists while
Peyton Gasche has recorded 38 points with 22 goals and 16 assists.
Sam Spangler continues to man the cage for Adrian with a 9-2 record and an average of 6.56 goals against per game and a save percentage of .593.
Mason Obeldobel has gotten the second most amount of playing time in goals with four goals allowed on the season in 53 minutes played to go with 11 saves.
As a team, the Bulldogs have managed to outscore opponents 162-69 on the year with 19 goals coming on the power play. Out of 50 man-down situations, the Bulldog defense has only allowed 11 goals.
Dating back to April of 2013, the Bulldogs trail the all-time series against Alma 6-4 and have lost the last six contests. Against Calvin, Adrian in on a three-game losing streak, but holds the all-time series record 6-3 with the last win coming in 2018.
The Bulldogs will look to snap the losing streak to Alma on Tuesday night on the road with the opening face off scheduled for 7:00 PM. Adrian will then follow up with a home game on Saturday, April 16 against Calvin at 1:00 PM.
