ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team has put together a winning streak this season sitting at 11-2 over all and winning the last seven games. The Bulldogs sit in first place in the MIAA standings to enter the week with a 3-0 record, and are tasked with the 2-0 Hope College Flying Dutchmen, and the 1-1 Albion College Britons. Adrian is coming off wins in conference against Kalamazoo, Alma, and Calvin.
The defense has been lights out for the Bulldogs. During the seven game winning streak, Adrian is yet to allow more than eight goals in a game and have score at lead nine. The Bulldogs defeated Kalamazoo 10-6, Alma 15-7, and Calvin 10-8 to sit perfect in conference play.Â
Hope comes into the week with a 10-2 record and are 2-0 in conference while Albion sits 8-4 overall with a 1-1 record in conference. The lone conference loss for Albion came last week against Hope where the Britons fell 18-13.
Hope on the season has outscored opponents 190-104 while the Bulldogs have outscored opponents 187-84. The Britons have outscore opponents 189-124 on the season.
Leading the offense for Adrian continues to be
Chris French who has scored 34 goals with 24 assists for 58 points.
Michael Jonas has racked up 52 points on the year on 30 goals with 22 assists followed by
Peyton Gasche with 49 points on 26 goals and 23 assists. At the face off dot,
Max Leventis continues his successful season ranking third in the country in face off winning percentage of 75.8%. He also leads the team and MIAA in ground balls this season with 135 which sits 35 ground balls higher than the next MIAA player. Leventis is coming off the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week award and has won 204 face offs this season out of 269 attempts.
On defense,
Cameron Reed continues to lead the team in caused turnovers with 30 which ranks third in the conference.
AJ Hayes has caused 15 this season and
Michael Jonas has caused 12.
Sam Spangler has made the start in goal in every game this season and holds an 11-2 record. He averages just 6.73 goals against per game which ranks second in the MIAAÂ trailing the first place spot by 0.41 goals.
A huge task is at hand for the Bulldogs as they have to face the top-5 scorers in the MIAA with Jace Conley and Sam Puzevic from Albion ranking first and fifth with a combined 90 goals this season. For Hope, Zach Wiggins, Jack Radzville, and Michael Mann hold down the second, third, and fourth place rankings in scoring in the MIAA.Â
The Bulldogs will begin the tough week on the road at Hope College on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:00 PM before coming home to face Albion at Docking Stadium on Saturday, April 23 at 4:00 PM. Saturday, the Bulldogs will honor its senior class prior to the start of the game with a special senior day ceremony.
