ADRIAN, Mich. -- The MIAA conference season is finally here for the Adrian College men's lacrosse team. On Saturday, Adrian will open the conference season against Kalamazoo College inside Docking Stadium. The Bulldogs currently sit with a 8-2 record on the year while Kalamazoo comes in with a 4-5 record. In the MIAA preseason poll, the Bulldogs were voted to finished last in the conference based on last season's results.
So far this season, Adrian has outscored its opponents 152-63 and have racked up 98 assists compared to opponents 28. On the year, Adrian ranks 26th in the nation in scoring offense averaging 15.2 goals per game and rank fourth in the country in goals allowed with only 6.3 goals allowed per game. The best ranking the Bulldogs hold in face off winning percentage which ranks second in the nation at 74.8%.
Chris French leads the team with 48 points behind 25 goals and 23 assists. He is coming off the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week award after posting four goals and four assists last week in the team's final nonconference game.
Michael Jonas leads the Bulldogs in goals with 26 to go with 19 assists for 45 points.
Peyton Gasche has also been an offensive threat with 20 goals and 13 assists totaling 33 points on the season.
On defense for Adrian,
Cameron Reed continues to lead the Bulldogs in caused turnovers with 24 followed by 11 from
Michael Jonas and
AJ Hayes.
Max Leventis leads the Bulldogs in ground balls with 103 on the season with the help of 158 face off wins with a winning percentage of 78.2%. Leventis ranks second in the country in face off winning percentage.
Riley Edwards and
Jake Coakley have each picked up 30 ground balls for the Bulldogs while Reed has grabbed 28.
Sam Spangler has been the starting goalie for Adrian starting all ten games this season. He has allowed 55 goals on the year sitting just shy of 500 minutes played. His goals against average on the season is 6.63 to go with a save percentage of .580 and an 8-2 record.
Adrian is tasked with just one conference game this week with Kalamazoo that is slated to start at 4:00 PM on Saturday, April 9 at Docking Stadium. Next week, the Bulldogs will face Alma on the road before hosting Calvin to continue MIAA play.
