OCCOQUAN RESERVOIR, Va. – Adrian Rowing traveled to Virginia this weekend to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships. On a Sunday marked by torrential rain, and a morning thunderstorm, the Varsity Four produced an outstanding display to defend its Conference Championship for a third consecutive season.
The Bulldogs raced on Sunday Morning in a straight final against Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference competitors Catholic, Stockton, Washington College, and Franklin and Marshall. The women from Adrian overpowered the opposition from stroke one, easing away from the field and continuing to walk away from the field throughout the race course. Adrian crossed the line in a time of 8:02.2, the fastest time in the event since 2017, and 43 seconds ahead of second place finisher Franklin and Marshall.
The day was capped off with Captain
Avery Kelley receiving an All-Conference Second Team award, and Junior Liz Bowler receiving an All-Novice award.
"Today was just an awesome display of racing from the girls," Said Head Coach Sam Pratt "We came into the race with the tag of favorites but to pull such a margin and be able to still set a blazing fast time is really awesome to see. Avery and Liz are so deserving of their individual accolades, and every girl on the team, whether in the boat or watching from the sidelines, was responsible for this success. We're lucky to have a strong group of returning athletes going forward into next year, and are really looking forward to continuing the success and growth that we've been demonstrating over the last couple of years."
The Bulldogs' season is now complete, and they go into a much deserved summer break. Rowing will return with the Fall season of 2023!
