ADRIAN, Mich. – For the third consecutive season, the Adrian College men's lacrosse team punched a ticket to the MIAA Conference Tournament. This season, the Bulldogs hold the No. 4 seed and will open up on the road at No. 1 Hope College. Adrian finished the regular season with an 8-7 record and finished 3-3 in conference play.
Earlier in the season, the Bulldogs struggled against Hope College falling to the Flying Dutchmen, 14-4 at home. After that game, Adrian went on a three-game winning streak where they scored 17 goals, 14 goals, and 23 goals before a second half comeback against Albion College fell short where the Bulldogs lost 13-9.
On the season, the Bulldogs have scored 173 goals as a team while allowing 141. Adrian averages 42.9 shots per game on the season with a 55.6 shot on goal percentage. The team has won 45.2% of face offs on the season while forcing 181 turnovers and scooping up 481 ground balls.
Adrian is led by
Michael Jonas who is the team leader in goals (29), assists (38), and points (67).
Riley Edwards is second on the team in goals with 21 followed by
Austin Selvage and
Brandon Hoerauf with 20 apiece.
Derek Hassel is second on the team is assists with 24 to go with 13 goals for 37 points.
On defense,
Cameron Reed leads the Bulldogs with 39 caused turnovers while
AJ Hayes has caused 26 and
Mark Picano has caused 22. Reed also leads the team with 85 ground balls followed by 43 from
Steven Martin and 40 from
Sam Spangler. Martin has led the team in faceoffs this season where he holds a faceoff percentage of 49.3% after winning 100 of his 203 faceoffs.
Adrian will look to Spangler in goal who holds an 8-7 record on the season and allows 9.65 goals per game while holding a 58.6% save percentage.
Hope College earned the No. 1 seed after winning the MIAA Championship after posting a perfect 6-0 conference record. The Flying Dutchmen finished with a 12-3 record on the year as they've scored 173 goals on the season while allowing 116. Hope has three goal scorers with more than 20 goals while the rest of the team holds less than ten on the season.
The winner of the Adrian and Hope semifinal will advance to the MIAA Tournament Championship and will take on the winner of Calvin University and Albion College on Saturday, May 4 for a shot at an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
