ADRIAN, Mich. -- Head Coach,
Brett Wetzel, of the Adrian College men's lacrosse team, announced his team captains for the 2025 season on Monday, naming seniors
Riley Edwards,
Cameron Reed, and
Sam Spangler as the program's leaders.
Edwards served as one of three captains last season, returning to the helm of the Bulldogs alongside his two new candidates in 2025. All three captains are key contributors to the team, providing key experience and value on both sides of the ball.
Reed, who's been one of Adrian's most valuable defenders over the last three seasons, has already shattered the program record for career caused turnovers (127) and individual single season caused turnovers (50). Reed's presence on the backend plays a key part in Adrian's transition game as well. The defender from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada will be relied on heavily to exemplify leadership and continue his strong play for the Bulldogs throughout his senior season.
Spangler has spent the majority of his Bulldog career as the number-one backstop in goal. Third in career saves, first in career save percentage, and second in career wins, Spangler is just shy of cementing himself as arguably one of the program's best goaltenders of all-time. In his senior season, the keeper from Canton, Michigan looks to lead his team from its first line of defense once again.
Edwards possesses a reliable force in the middle of the field for the Bulldogs, transitioning the ball from defense to offense, while also adding a scoring touch. In his second year as captain and final as a Bulldog, the Schomberg, Ontario, Canada native will bring his experienced leadership to an Adrian team looking to accomplish big things in 2025.
The Adrian College men's lacrosse squad begins action this Saturday, February 15 at 1:00 PM versus nationally-ranked Christopher Newport University in Virginia.
