ADRIAN, Mich. — The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) has announced its women's hockey 3 Stars of the Week for games played December 31-January 4.
Courtney Ben, F, Sr., Adrian
Ben provided consistent veteran leadership and offensive production, totaling two points (1G, 1A) and serving as a constant threat in the offensive zone. The St. Peters, Mo., native picked up a crucial assist on the game-winning goal during Friday's, 2-0, shutout of Trinity. She followed that up on Saturday by scoring Adrian's lone goal against No. 2 Amherst, firing a power-play tally in the second period to give the Bulldogs a temporary 1-0 lead.
Riley Johnson, F, Sr., Adrian
Johnson led the Bulldog attack with a dominant offensive display, recording four points (3G, 1A) over a three-game span. The Farmington, Mich., native was the star of the show in Wednesday's, 6-4, non-conference victory over Trine, where she netted a hat trick. Johnson scored twice in the first period to give Adrian an early lead and capped off her performance with a shorthanded goal in the third period to seal the victory. She also added a primary assist on the game's opening goal.
Kiera Stack, GK, So., Adrian
Stack was a wall in the crease for the Bulldogs, starting all three games and compiling 72 saves against high-level competition. The Marshfield, Mass., native's highlight of the week came on Friday when she turned aside all 27 shots faced to blank Trinity for her fourth shutout of the season. Stack was equally impressive on Saturday against No. 2 Amherst, making 26 saves and keeping Adrian in a one-goal game until an empty-netter in the final minute. She finished the week with a .923 save percentage and two wins.
