Box Score CINCINNATI – The Adrian College men's lacrosse team got their first Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) victory of the season as they defeated Mount St. Joseph 15-10. The Bulldogs are now 2-1 on the season.
Adrian scored first on a man-up opportunity as sophomore John Hudzinski (Blaine, Minn./Centennial) netted his second goal of the season on an assist from junior Tyler Tanguay (Port Colborne, Ont./Lakeshore Catholic). Drake Dailey-Chwalibog (White Lake, Mich./St. Mary's), a freshman, also netted his second goal of the season at 7:47 of the first quarter. The Lions scored the next two goals, including one on a man-up opportunity, to tie the game at two. The Bulldogs quickly countered with goals by juniors Scott Krystiniak (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and TJ Cook (Caledon, Ont./Upper Canada College) to regain the lead 4-2 at the end of the first.
The Bulldogs and Lions score multiple goals in the second period as junior David Monroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) netted two-in-a-row, his fourth and fifth of the year, followed by senior Josh Maluta (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley). Mount St. Joseph came on strong as they netted three consecutive goals to pull within one. Maluta would score again with two minutes remaining to push the lead back to two at the end of the second quarter.
Adrian scored four unanswered goals to open the third quarter as Maluta netted his third of the game which was followed by junior Mitch Barnard (Springwater Township, Ont./Eastview Secondary), Krystiniak and Monroe's third. The Lions would score twice late in the period as Adrian extended their lead to four goals.
The fourth quarter saw Mount St. Joseph net the first goal of the period just 24 seconds in. Adrian responded by scoring three unanswered goals by Tanguay, Dailey-Chwalibog and Barnard.
Junior Pat Gaeger (Elk Grove, Ill./Saint Viator) made five saves in goal for the Bulldogs in the win.
On the day, Adrian led the Lions in shots (47-38) and groundballs (24-21). Adrian was 1-for-3 on man-up opportunities while Mount St. Joseph was 1-for-1. The Bulldogs were 1-for-1 in their only clearing opportunity while the Lions did not have any chances.
The Bulldogs will take the week off before their first home game on March 12 when they face MLC opponent Fontbonne at 12:00 p.m.
