Box Score MEQUON, Wis. – The Adrian College men's lacrosse team used a six goal third period to ensure a 14-6 win over Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) opponent Concordia (Wis.). The Bulldogs are now 11-2 on the season and remain perfect in conference play at 6-0.
A four goal first period gave the Bulldogs an early lead as junior T.J. Cook (Caledon, Ont./Upper Canada College) scored twice in the period including one on a man-up opportunity.
Neither team was able to get any offense going early in the second period. Adrian was finally able to find the back of the net as junior Tyler Tanguay (Port Colborne, Ont./Lakeshore Catholic) scored with just 2:06 left in the period. Concordia would answer back with a goal of their own less than a minute later, however, the Bulldogs refused to let the Falcons back in it. Cook netted his third goal of the game just 12 seconds later to give Adrian a 6-1 lead at the half.
It was Cook again scoring to start the second half just 42 seconds in. The Bulldogs would go on to score six unanswered goals in the period including Cook adding another at 4:24.
Concordia made their best attempt at a comeback in the final period as they scored five times including the final goal of the game with just 58 seconds left. Twice the Falcons scored on man-up opportunities.
T.J. Cook led the Bulldogs with a season and game-high five goals. Junior David Monroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) had a game-high four assists and six points. Tanguay scored two goals on the afternoon, picked up two groundballs and had a game-high four caused turnovers. Senior Josh Maluta (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) scored a goal and three assist. Sophomore Chase Cook (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and senior Adam Hague (Hudsonville, Mich./Pope) led the Bulldogs with a game-high four groundballs recovered.
Freshman Kevin Lerg (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) started in goal for the Bulldogs making three saves in the first half. Junior Pat Gaeger (Elk Grove, Ill./Saint Viator) came on in the second half and made four saves to earn his third win of the season.
Adrian controlled the offensive side of the ball as they outshot the Falcons 40-to-25. Concordia held a 24-to-18 advantage in groundballs recovered. The Bulldogs and Falcons split the faceoffs as each side won 12. Adrian was 20-for-22 in clear attempts while Concordia was 15-for-16. Both sides were able to convert on man-up opportunities as Adrian was 1-for-3 while the Falcons were 2-for-4.
Adrian will host MLC opponent Trine University on April 20 at 7:00 pm with a chance to clinch at least a share of the conference title with a win.
