Baseball Posts Fourth Straight MIAA Shutout at Home

ADRIAN, Mich. - The baseball team's fantastic pitching in league games at home continued on Friday afternoon as the Bulldogs posted their third and fourth straight MIAA home shutouts with a 6-0 and 5-0 pair of wins at Nicolay Field against Olivet College. The Bulldogs are now 14-6 overall and 9-1 in the MIAA and have defeated the Comets 21 straight times going back to 2006.

The two-headed monster of seniors Ryan Domschot and David Partyka kept the Comets' bats off-balance all day. Domschot improved to 4-0 lifetime against the Comets with a two-hit performance in game one, while Partyka set a new career-high with 10 strikeouts in game two. Domschot went hitless for 5.2 innings and walked five with six strikeouts in a 108-pitch outing. Partyka allowed three hits in seven innings and walked none in a 76-pitch complete game which lasted just one hour and 10 minutes.

Adrian scored in the first three innings in game one and then handed the ball over to their southpaw to complete the win. The Bulldogs were all over the basepaths in game one tying a season-high with six stolen bases in seven attempts. Brian Bilius had a pair of steals and was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Four different Bulldog hitters had a double in game one as Jake Cappelletty went 1-for-3 with two RBI's. Nate Clark collected a double and his first RBI of the season in three at-bats. Joe Dubina also had a two-bagger and a single in three at-bats.

Adrian scored once in the second inning of game two and then broke it open with four runs in the fifth inning courtesy of two errors on one play by first baseman Beau Felix which allowed two runs to score. Partyka lowered his season ERA to 2.58 in the win and is now 4-1 on the mound. Adrian had five hits off starter Sean Alexander for the Comets. Alexander gave up just one earned run in six innings of work with a walk and three strikeouts.

Cappelletty went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in the nightcap and raised his season average to .410 (25-for-61). Garrett Green, Joe Partyka and Dubina each had an RBI in game two. Partyka and Dubina each scored a run as did Cody Meyer, Nate Sarkissian and Sam Fischer. The same two teams will square off tomorrow at 1:00 PM in Olivet to conclude their four-game series.
